Outline
The master’s degree course trains a graduate who, having completed the basic preparation in Mathematics, both in its theoretical aspects (Logic, Algebra, Geometry and Analysis), and in its applied aspects (in areas such as Numerical Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Model Theory and Optimization techniques), can acquire the skills necessary both to pursue research and to formalize and consequently analyze with mathematical methodologies the problems arising from applied sciences and technologies. With this in mind, more specifically, the degree program is divided into two curricula: one called ‘Mathematical Methodologies,’ and the other called ‘Mathematical Models’.
Objectives
The Master’s Degree Course in Applied Mathematics aims to train specialists who are able to analyse problems not only within Mathematics itself but also in other related fields and to identify, with the help of the scientific literature, the mathematical tools needed to formalise and solve these problems, interacting profitably with reserachers from other disciplines (Computer Science, Engineering, Economics and Experimental Sciences). The course includes a remarkable component of classes on scientific and technological fields, which also aims to increase the ability to understand the language of related disciplines and thus to interact with experts working in these fields, in research and in today’s job market.
Thanks to a broad education based on the interaction between theory and application, master’s graduates in Applied Mathematics will have the skills to contribute to the solution of a wide range of problems and applications, and will be able to successfully enter manufacturing, administrative and research environments, or to continue their education through doctoral or postgraduate schools, in mathematics or in disciplines that make relevant use of mathematical modelling.

The graduated in Applied Mathematics is able to mathematically formalise problems formulated in natural language and to take advantage of this formulation for the analysis of issues not only internal to Mathematics itself but also specific to other related fields.
