Entry qualification

Bachelor/Undergraduate diploma (or higher) Candidates are required to hold a three-year degree (B.A.) Admission criteria The admission to the Master of a graduate who is in possession of a degree awarded by a foreign University or an equivalent foreign institute is evaluated by the Didactic Committee through a case by case assessment, considering the documentation received through online procedures, on the basis of the relevance and consistency of the qualification obtained abroad (and of the entire training course) with the training objectives of the Master. The Didactic Committee may request a further clarification on the motivations of the student to request admission and on his / her training path through a motivation letter. An interview may also be required, in English, to be held in video-conference. After the evaluation You will be notified about acceptance approximately one month after the application deadline. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Italian. Schools and universities usually provide documentation translated into English. If this is not available, an official translation will be required, along with certification of the authenticity of the original documents. Overview

The Master in Language and Mind is a highly interdisciplinary program aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of language as a human cognitive capacity, combining theoretical perspectives in Linguistics and Philosophy with their different and many applications in fields such as Computational Linguistics, Psycholinguistics and Text Analysis.

All courses are taught in English, in the lively international environment at the Department of Social, Political and Cognitive Science, a leader in multidisciplinary research.

The Master also offers two main specializations through its two curricula “Linguistics and Cognition” and “Philosophy and Cognition”, with flexible options to combine teachings from both. In addition, students may apply for a Double Degree program in collaboration with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

Career opportunities

The Master program in Language and Mind. Linguistics and Cognitive Studies, prepares students to undertake advanced doctoral studies and provides them with a specialized knowledge of the research issues in the fields of linguistics and philosophy. The program is centred on advance theoretical and experimental research on language and cognition.

Students will become able to address a specialized scientific bibliography, mostly in English and to be in contact with qualified publications and scientific journals, both on paper and online. The acquired capacity to apply theories and methods of linguistic research to the description and analysis of particular languages in a comparative perspective prepares the students to operate in the domain of advanced fundamental and applied research on human language.

In addition to the continuation of the studies in the framework of a graduate school, the job opportunities offered by the MA program can be identified in positions in which language and cognition are central and require an in-depth knowledge of theoretical models, of models of linguistic analysis, of experimental methodologies, of aspects of the interdisciplinary study of language as a cognitive capacity. The potential sectors of activities for the students who obtain the degree in Language and Mind. Linguistics and Cognitive Studies include the didactics of languages, the study of the pathologies of language and of possible rehabilitation techniques, the domain of computational applications to language related activities.
