Overview

The Chemistry Master’s Degree Course is a course delivered entirely in English.
It offers a unique training opportunity in an international environment, gathering students from different parts of the world and to consolidating knowledge of technical-scientific English language, facilitating subsequent opportunities for curricular and post-graduate mobility abroad. The knowledge of English language is essential to continue the career in the field of scientific research, both in public and private research institutions (PhD, research grants, researcher) and in the international corporate (particularly in the research and development sectors).
The sectors in which chemical research plays a prominent role are: development of innovative materials, pharmaceutical chemistry, biomolecular chemistry and environmental chemistry, agro-food and agro-industrial chemistry, energy production and energy sustainability.

Career opportunities

The Master’s Degree in Chemistry guarantees the development of skills that can lead to work companies and / or as public authority at various levels:
- Enrollment in the Italian Register of Chemists as a SENIOR CHEMIST. This authorizes to work as a Freelance Chemist, to be Head of the Laboratory of agro-food, forensic and investigative, bio-chemical, chemical-clinical, eco-toxicological and quality control, as public authority (ARPA, ISPRA, ASL, SSN) or in private companies.
-Signing test reports, analytical certificates, sworn appraisals, technical scientific reports for environmental remediation projects.
- Assume the role of Quality Control Manager of raw materials and finished products, in the basic and fine chemical, materials, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, water and air treatment industries.
The Master’s Degree in Chemistry offers a training course favoring the FLEXIBILITY of skills and competences, through the acquisition of a solid basic knowledge. This model, as opposed to a specialized one, allows a wider range of opportunities for fronting the world of work and responds to a specific request coming from the direct dialogue with stakeholders.
To achieve this goal, the Master’s Degree in Chemistry aims:
- to guarantee a comprehensive cultural preparation regarding theoretical principles and interpretative models to understand chemical phenomena;
- to guarantee a sound knowledge of the scientific investigation method and of design and carry out of laboratory experiments, from data collection, to evaluation of experimental errors, to interpretation of data and their statistical treatment;
- to provide an in-depth knowledge of mathematical and computer tools;
- to guarantee a wide knowledge of the most important experimental investigation techniques and of the most advanced analytical instrumentation;
- to guarantee the achievement of a great autonomy in research approaches;
- to confirm (and increase) a sound knowledge of the English language, both in written and oral forms
All these skills are also transversally attributable to cultural, theoretical and technical-practical skills. These adhere to the world of work demands, as summarized in the ten soft skills listed in the report of the World Economic Forum (‘Future of Jobs’ document): problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, management and coordination of the research and / or work group, emotional intelligence, judgment and decision-making skills, service orientation, negotiation and cognitive flexibility.
Finally, it is important to stress that the graduates in Chemistry can claim skills and technical knowledge suitable for being accepted in PhD programs at national and international level, where they will be able to carry out high-level research activities.
