Overview

The degree course in chemical sciences forms professional figures of excellence that show full capacity for autonomy and flexibility in the world of work.

The graduate has a solid basic education in the various fields of chemistry: inorganic, organic, physical, analytical and biological. This training allows both a brilliant continuation of studies in II level degrees and the inclusion in work activities that require knowledge of innovative methodologies and mastery of the use of complex instruments

The graduate has a professionalism that allows him to work in both industry and public or private laboratories, dealing with activities related to the environmental, biological, pharmaceutical and quality control sectors.

Program structure

The three-year degree course in Chemical Sciences is taught in Italian.

Class MIUR: L-27 Class of the degrees in Chemical Sciences
Duration: 3 years
Credits: 180

Career opportunities

CHEMICALS AND ASSIMILATED PROFESSIONS

Function in a work context
In a work context, graduates in Chemical Sciences in particular will know:
- apply theoretical knowledge through the use of software and / or specific mathematical methods;
- use online bibliographic search tools and access to databases;
- ability to perform the isolation and purification of simple compounds and determine their structure through analytical and instrumental investigations (spectroscopic, spectrometric and diffractometric);
- ability to design and perform chemical reactions in the required safety conditions.
The graduate must possess the ability to assess the quality and accuracy of laboratory results and be able to frame the results obtained in a model.
It must also possess the tools to evaluate safety, costs, yields and, possibly, the environmental impact of the execution of standard chemical reactions.
Graduates in Chemical Sciences must know how to communicate ideas, problems, and solutions to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors, both in Italian and in one of the main European languages, preferably in English; must be able to use the internet also to recover information easily; must know the most common calculation programs and writing processors and / or images, useful for processing and presenting results; must be able to conduct collaborative activities.

Skills associated with the function
Graduates in Chemical Sciences will have acquired the principles necessary for understanding basic chemistry. In particular, the basics of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and elements of biological chemistry and analytical chemistry. These notions will have to be sufficient for understanding and framing a chemical problem. Furthermore he will have to be able to read, even in English, the reading of texts and articles in the sector.

Professional opportunities
In addition to being prepared for further studies, graduates in Chemical Sciences will have access to professional and technical activities in research institutes, industrial laboratories, and in all chemical, physical, environmental, and biological fields where the presence of a chemist is requested.
