Language requirements | English Italian In order to take the MSc courses, students must have an adequate knowledge of the English language, at minimum B2 level, as established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students can demonstrate the required knowledge level either through an approved international certification (see the list) of international certifications recognized by the University of Siena), or by passing a B2 level exam at the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (CLA). After enrolment in Siena, students having an international certification must present it to the CLA office. The CLA is located in Piazza San Francesco 7, Siena (more details can be found in the related website). For students who are obliged to pass the B2 exam, the University of Siena offers B2 level courses. Dates of the exams and timetables of the courses are reported in the CLA website. The timetable of the English courses is also included in the MSc courses timetable. Overview
The master’s degree program in International Studies provides multidisciplinary knowledge of a legal, economic, political, historical and linguistic nature. This knowledge aims to develop the ability to understand and analyze the international dimension of political, economic and social phenomena.
The acquired competences allow graduates of the course of study to outline and monitor highly complex projects and operational strategies in the fields of international relations, development cooperation and European policies. Typical career opportunities include diplomatic careers, international organizations, community institutions, non-governmental organizations.
Program structure
The degree course in International studies has two curricula taught in Italian:
- International development and cooperation
- International and diplomatic sciences

Career opportunities
The course prepares for entry into the public administration, community institutions, international organizations, framing their graduates in the professional profile of the diplomat, the international official, the public manager, as well as the company manager.
In the same way, the course prepares for the profession of officer and manager of non-governmental and non-profit organizations, national or international, that deal with international relations, human rights, development cooperation, humanitarian interventions in the areas of crisis.
The typical career opportunities of graduates are:
- the diplomatic career;
- the European institutions;
- international governmental and non-governmental organizations;
- development cooperation bodies;
- companies and other private organizations operating internationally (multinationals, banks, insurance companies, trade associations and voluntary organizations);
