Entry qualification

Bachelor/Undergraduate diploma (or higher) After you have applied, an Enrolment Committee will assess your competences and skills against the requirements of the MSc Programme. Admission criteria The admission to the Master of a graduate who is in possession of a degree awarded by a foreign University or an equivalent foreign institute is evaluated by the Didactic Committee through a case by case assessment, considering the documentation received through online procedures, on the basis of the relevance and consistency of the qualification obtained abroad (and of the entire training course) with the training objectives of the Master, as well as linguistic knowledge. After the evaluation You will be notified about acceptance approximately one month after the application deadline. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Italian. Schools and universities usually provide documentation translated into English. If this is not available, an official translation will be required, along with certification of the authenticity of the original documents. Language requirements

English Italian English knowledge In order to take the MSc courses, students must have an adequate knowledge of the English language, at least of level B1 as established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Students can demonstrate to possess the required knowledge level either through a recognized international certification (see the list) of international certifications recognized by the University of Siena), or by passing a B2 level exam at the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (CLA). After the enrolment in Siena, students having an international certification must present it to the CLA office and apply for recognition. The CLA is located in Piazza San Francesco 7, Siena (more details can be found in the related website). Knowledge of Italian language The Italian language proficiency test is compulsory for all non-EU candidates residing abroad who enroll in a course taught in Italian and who do not have a language certification that allows the exemption from the test. Overview

The master’s degree course in Anthropology and visual studies offers the possibility of a fully disciplinary specialization, thanks to the presence of a differentiated offer of anthropological teachings of classical cut, which however focus on the emerging themes of contemporaneity, and at the same time to practice interdisciplinary paths, in particular those aimed at artistic and communicative practices, at cultural representations, experimenting an original weaving with the area of visual studies, thanks to the contributions of semiology, qualitative sociology, spectacle disciplines.

Career opportunities

Graduates, according to the individual in-depth study pursued within the two curricula, will be able to work with public bodies and institutions of a private nature that operate in the field of social and cultural intervention.

Graduates who have studied in depth the anthropology of the image and the show, will be able to access the employment fields of expressive design, artistic production and the various creative activities connected to the enhancement and protection of the cultural heritage, of the museum and archival management, the protection of demo-ethno-anthropological assets, the enhancement of traditional knowledge and expressive skills.

Those who have opted for social research will be able to turn to governmental and non-governmental voluntary and development support organizations, as well as, within the voluntary sector and public social intervention, to those organizations that are interested in migratory flows and the policies of acceptance and control of the processes of exclusion (racism, gender discrimination) and dependency (forms of access to work, political representation). Also the institutions that preside over the positive processes of valorisation of the phenomena of hybridization (scholastic integration, neighborhood) of affirmation of new social subjectivities and new forms of family and collective life, of enhancing the communicative and expressive heritages of the popular and basic cultural tradition.

This master’s degree opens, obviously, to the research sector, consisting both in public university research and in that supported by private foundations and institutions.
